This week our library media program had the privilege of being visited by a colleague from out of state. Our school frequently has visitors looking at different pieces and parts of our instructional program, so our students and staff are quite use to seeing new faces observing and watching us. Personally, I love the opportunity to talk and share with visitors. The experience rewards us by providing another opportunity to reflect and get feedback on our program.
Benefits –
- Describing our program gives us a chance to see the big picture as we share it with others.
- Finding out that what we think is just normal (“everyone must do programs or classes or procedures like this”), maybe something above and beyond to others.
- Asking them questions to share and compare and get feedback from them about the library media program.
- Questions that they ask often can make you think about the program in a new or different way then you had before. (outside perspectives are often very helpful).
We rarely turn a visitor away from coming to our school and our library media program. We find we get just as much out of it as we hope they do.
